Slip Stream Sportsbar on New Street (or SSS as its known around these parts), is a firm local favourite, known for its fun-filled Wednesday karaoke nights, Thursday open mic sessions and live music sessions on the weekend. This year, they are an official National Arts Festival venue, their line-up crammed with top music acts from around the country.
The SSS Top Bar, where all the music magic happens, is dedicated to cultivating and supporting the live music scene in Grahamstown during the rest of the year as well. dedicated to the Live Music scene in Grahamstown. Under the guidance of local celebrity “Dirty Mike” Theron, this is the place to be if you’re at #NAF16 and you love music.

Entry to SSS is free during Festival, and you only pay for the shows you see. Every day is packed with a number of exciting performances from about midday – you can check out the line-up below. To beat the chill, grab some of their warm spiced Glühwein… or even a willy warmer for only R40!
There is an array of instruments available to musicians who want to sharpen theirr musical skills at no extra charge, and if you’re strapped for cash and really talented, you can even get paid to perform on their well-equipped stage. They have hosted international bands such as Magrudergrind from New York and Godmother from Sweden and are always looking for new talent.
The bar is not affiliated with the casino, so you have to make your way upstairs to be a part of the excitement on offer.

Not much of a performer? Fear not, Slip Stream has something for everyone, even those on a strict student budget. Cover charges for the performances vary according to the night (and there is often no charge), but it’s usually never more than R30.
This National Arts Festival, entrance to the bar will be free, unless you want to watch one of the amazing performances on their main stage. There are pool tables and dart boards if you want to challenge your mates to a quick game, reasonably priced drinks and hookah pipes available at a R30 initial charge and R10 for a refill.
They also offer venue hire and open their bar just for your event!
